Ecuador

from $10.50

This lot cups with the delicate fruit note of Pear and the acidity Limeade, a finish of Caramel and a floral quality throughout.

This bean comes from the renowned operation that Juan Pena operates out of Ecuador. In large, the coffees he oversees production of are very high scoring, and therefore very expensive lots. This is one of the first coffees he has put out with the intention of it being accessible as a daily drinking cup of coffee. That is not to say that this lot is lacking on the cupping table, but rather this is an expansion effort from Juan Pena to highlight regions and producers who would otherwise have no outlet to sell their coffee in the specialty market. Typically these producers, a majority of whom are women, grow a number of crops and regardless of their unique microclimates leading to high scoring cups, are not rewarded for quality of coffee because the coffee is sold on the local (Ecuadorian) market. The coffees in this lot come from smallholder farms in Morona Santiago and Zamora Chinchipe, two rural regions in Southern Ecuador. Juan Pena provides farmers with education for growing and harvesting with the goal of improving cup quality and crop yield.

Coffee from smallholders is delivered to the dry mill where it goes through sorting and then cupping to match flavor profiles by Juan Pena and his team.

This coffee is best roasted from City to Full City to bring the best flavor profile.
